Gypsies At Heart
Hurricane Florence
He would have been flying home tonight (Thursday), but with the chance of canceled flights from the storm, there was a possibility that he wouldn’t make it home till the weekend or worse. I can’t pull the camper. Heck, I don’t even know how to hook it up to the truck. So, here we are sitting in another country with our eyes glued to Facebook and the Weather Channel.
As the storm approached the coast, it was amazing to see the campgrounds in the surrounding areas not affected by the hurricane offering safe haven to any and all who travel. Talk about kindness. I saw in our Full-Time Families group people offering up their driveways because they had space and most of all big hearts. Even better is the amount of prayers and support from other members, and passing along the word of evacuee space ahead of the area. It fills me with joy to see our community so strong coming together in a time of need.
As we anxiously await news regarding the damage in and around Topsail Island and our beloved Jolly Roger Pier, we have been reflecting on how things can change in an instant. Joseph brought me there last year for his birthday weekend and I quickly fell in love with the beach, lack of people, and fishing. We visit as often as possible and it was just a month ago when we said farewell from the parking lot of the hotel to our family as we drove north.
To our friends and family, we are praying for you. We are thinking of you. And if shit goes sideways, we are headed home to help with the clean up. Don’t worry, we will grab more water, bread, and alcohol along the way. You just tell us what you need. We love you. xoxo
